Anti-wrinkle botulinum is a treatment that is medically prescribed, and should only ever be carried out by a trained professional.

Botulinum is a natural protein that is produced by Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium. Botox facial injections prevent acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, from being released by axons, resulting in flaccid paralysis. This is why Botox is very effective as a line and wrinkle removal treatment. It is important to note here that Botox injections are not recommended for pregnant women, or for those who are currently breastfeeding.

What the treatment involves

Botox line and wrinkle treatment is a non-invasive treatment for the face. At first, you will have a consultation with a fully qualified medical practitioner. This consultation will always be in person and never via phone. During the consultation, your medical history will be taken, as well as discussing the reasons for you wanting treatment.

This procedure is non-invasive, as no local anaesthetic is used. The skin is thoroughly cleaned with antibacterial cleaner, followed by small injections into the effected muscles, of the botulinum toxin. You will feel a little discomfort, as opposed to pain, during the procedure. Most Botox treatments take less than 10 minutes.

After Care

Very little after care is needed as the procedure causes only slight discomfort. Most people can go straight back to work and resume their normal daily activities. General after care advice is that of not rubbing or massaging the treated areas of the face, for at least three to five days. Normal washing and cleansing of the skin is still advised, but no vigorous rubbing of the face. Results of these wrinkle injections can usually be seen as early as five days, although it may take as long as two weeks. The effects of the treatment should last between four to six months, after which more injections will be needed.
